What is the Trails Use Task Force (TUTF)?

Significant increase in park attendance coupled with changing types of trail use were indicators of a need for Open Space to develop a formal trail management plan. Initial public meetings concerning the development of a Trail Use Action Plan led to the creation of the Trail Use Task Force in October of 1995.

This group is made up of citizen volunteers from the majority user groups (equestrian, hiker and mountain biker), Open Space Advisory Committee representatives, and Open Space Staff representatives. The purpose of the Trail Use Task Force is to utilize the expertise of the different user groups to develop some solutions to trail conflicts that people have been experiencing.
_________________________________________________________
Next meeting of the Trails Use Task Force is Tuesday Oct. 20th at 7:00PM
Open Space Administrative Office
700 Jefferson County Parkway, Suite 100 Golden, CO 80401
This is open to the public.

We will be discussing:
Signage results (see below), Yielding regulations, the Apex Park Decision (see summary below), and any conflicts or compliments reported from equestrians.

Anyone who would like to report a conflict, please contact one of the TUTF equestrian Reps.  (See the list below).  Include the following information:
Park Name:

Location (trail name if you know it):

Day of the Week:

Time of Day:

Description of the conflict including the number of people involved, mode of transportation (mountain bike, equestrian, hiker) and how it was resolved.  Mention if a ranger or volunteer patroller was notified and if you reported the incident to Open Space.

That said, you are also encouraged to send us other experiences of note.  For example, I rode the Apex Trail a few weeks ago and had only good contacts with the other park users.  This was during the first regular season Broncos’ game on a Sunday morning/early afternoon so the traffic was lighter.  Only one mountain biker riding by himself, would not even look up and smile or acknowledge my presence – pretty hard to ignore a 3 horses and riders.
